Zadnjih godina brojimo oko 350 učenika u 16 odjela.Obnovili smo veći dio školskih prostora i s veseljem radimo u jednoj smjeni.

About the School

Elementary school Franjo Krežma in Osijek, Croatia, is a school in the centre of the city with a long tradition. It was founded in 1964 as an institution for teaching practice of professors and students of Teachers’ College, University in Osijek. This tradition is held even today: students from different studying groups visit and participate our classes in order to learn and to improve their teaching skills, whereby they are monitored, advised and mentored by the experienced and successful teachers of our school. The school was proudly named after Franjo Krežma, the young, world famous violinist and composer from the 19th century, who was born in Osijek.

Nowadays there are 340 pupils in our school, from the first to eighth grade and about 20 teachers teaching various subjects according to the national educational curriculum.

Since the foreign language was introduced in the national educational curriculum as an obligatory subject from the first grade of elementary school in 2003, all of our pupils learn English or German language from the first grade, what we are especially proud of. Additionally, some students attend extracurricular classes of Hungarian language, as a part of programs for promoting language and culture of Hungarian minority in the region. We are also planning to introduce French and Italian languages as optional school subjects starting with the next school year. Therefore, the pupils of our school will have the possibility to learn more foreign languages and a lot of them, as well as their parents, are interested in it and support our initiative.

Because of the hard work and lot of effort of our pupils and teachers in curricular and extracurricular activities, our school is successful in many areas, such as informatics, geography, chemistry, foreign languages, sport, drama group, school choir. All this can be confirmed by numerous acknowledgements and awards from local, regional and national workshops, exhibitions and competitions.

Pupils and teachers traditionally take part in various national and international projects (e.g. volunteering for the Red Cross, Unesco or animal shelters) and in collecting financial support for the children around the world (Projects: “Backpacks for the children in Africa”, “For the children of Japan”, OBA 2011), as well as for the children and families in need that are in our school or region.
